The Rhine class is a class of cabin passenger ships operated by the US shipping company Crystal River Cruises . The lead ship of the class, the Crystal Bach , was handed over to the shipping company on August 3, 2017 in Wismar .
history
The ships should initially be built by Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven and by no means be identical. Initially it was planned to build two 110-meter-long ships for 110 passengers each, which were to be used on the rivers Rhine, Main and Danube under the names Crystal Bach and Crystal Mahler , as well as two smaller ships for up to 84 passengers, which were called Crystal Ravel and Crystal Debussy were intended for use in France on the Seine , Garonne and Dordogne, as well as in the Garonne estuary. The first two ships were ordered in July 2015, the following in November 2015.
construction
Construction began on May 9, 2016 at Lloyd Werft. The start button of the plasma torch system for cutting the first steel section was pressed in the former steel construction hall of the Bremer Vulkan by Edie Rodriguez, CEO and President of the American Crystal Cruises belonging to the Genting Group. The bow and stern were built by the steel construction company BVT Bremen in Bremen and Bremerhaven, BVT Bremen, which belongs to the Heinrich Rönner Group, was commissioned by the Lloyd Werft with the steel construction work for the four river vessels. In addition to the BVT production sites in Bremen and Bremerhaven, the two East German Rönner sites in Roßlau and Boizenburg were also commissioned with the work. Eventually it was decided that all four ships should be based on the same basic design. On August 19, 2016, were Crystal Brook and Crystal Mahler at MV shipyards Wismar on down Kiel . On May 24, 2017 the Crystal Ravel and the Crystal Debussy were laid down.
Delivery and commissioning
The Crystal Bach as the first completed new building project by MV Werften was handed over to the shipping company on August 3, 2017 in Wismar and christened in Rüdesheim on August 20, 2017 . The second ship of the class, the Crystal Mahler , was delivered on September 20, 2017 and christened in Wismar on the same day. The Crystal Debussy was delivered on March 8, 2018 and christened in Amsterdam on May 28, 2018 . The Crystal Ravel was delivered on April 12, 2018 and christened in Budapest on July 11, 2018 .
The ships operated under the flag of Malta are used on the rivers Rhine, Main, Danube and Moselle.
Ship description
The ships are 135 meters long, 11.4 meters wide, have four decks and have a draft of around 2 meters.
The propulsion is provided by four rudder propellers arranged in the stern and two Schottel pump jets as emergency propulsion and maneuvering aid. The diesel-electric drive system with a total of four diesel generators , rudder propellers and Schottel pump jets was designed by E-MS (E-Powered Marine Solution) from Harburg. Two of the diesel generators are arranged in the fore and aft. The specialty is the power generation and distribution by using a direct current intermediate circuit. This means that the diesel generators do not need to be synchronized, with the advantage that diesel generators can be switched on very quickly when the load changes. The generators can be operated at two speeds, 1,500 / min and 1,800 / min.
The ships offer space for 110 passengers who are accommodated exclusively in balcony suites.
