Yumileidi Cumbá

Yumileidi Cumbá Jay (born February 11, 1975 in Guantánamo ) is a former Cuban shot putter and Olympic champion .

In 1994 she became vice junior world champion, but then had to contend with injuries and failed to qualify at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta . She was sixth at both the 1999 World Championships in Seville and the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney . In 1999 and 2001 she won the Universiade .

At the World Indoor Championships in Budapest in 2004, she moved from third to second place after the first-placed Wita Pawlysch was disqualified for doping. On August 8 of the same year she achieved her personal best in Huelva with 19.97 m.

Shortly thereafter, she had her greatest success at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens . In the last attempt she hit 19.59 m and displaced the German Nadine Kleinert to third place. After the first placed Irina Korschanenko tested positive for doping and disqualified, Cumbá received the gold medal. She is the first Olympic champion in her discipline who does not come from Europe.

At the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki she was sixth, at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka twelfth.

At a height of 1.83 m, her competition weight is 105 kg.
