Currents is a metalcore / djent band from Fairfield , Connecticut , United States , formed in 2011 .

history

Currents was founded in 2011 in Fairfield , Connecticut and, after numerous line-up changes, consists of singer Brian Wille, guitarists Ryan Castaldi and Chris Wiseman, bassist Dee Cronkite and drummer Jeff Brown.

In January 2013, the debut EP Victimized was released with five titles on its own. Two years later, on January 23, 2015, the debut album Life - Lost followed , in which Ricky Armellino from This or the Apocalypse was a guest musician, also in-house. At the beginning of March 2017 the band was signed by the US independent label SharpTone Records . The band's second album, The Place I Feel Safest , was released on June 16 of the same year via SharpTone Records .

Earlier this year, 2018, the band played their first European tour as opening act for Miss May I . Between May 3 and 25, 2018, the band will be touring the United States as a support act for Born of Osiris and Fit for a King .

music

The music of Currents moves between Metalcore and Progressive Metal , whereby the songs have linear structures. In addition, influences of the Djent can be heard. According to Morten Wenzek from German Metal Hammer , the band “copied the European Djent well”, because bands like Novelists and Vitja have been working in this genre for years. He places the music of currents between bands like Emmure and Loathe . In their music the musicians work with brute riffs, many breakdowns , Djent guitars and melodic insertions, which is described as "a wild mixture of Born of Osiris , Fallujah and Make Them Suffer ". The band also varies with a complex playing tempo. Singer Brian Wille alternates between clear and screaming singing , which comes across clearly.
