Fallujah is an American technical death metal band from San Francisco , California that was formed in 2007.

history

The band was founded in early 2007 by high school friends Alex Hofmann (electric guitar), Scott Carstairs (electric guitar), Tommy Logan (drums), Dan Wissinger (bass) and Suliman Arghandiwal (vocals). The group made their first appearance on June 15, 2007. The first demo, which included four songs, came out towards the end of the month. Later that year the band separated from Wissinger and Logan. Bassist Brandon "Brando" Hoberg and drummer Andrew Baird joined the cast as replacements. It was followed by other appearances in the San Francisco Bay Area , before concerts were held outside this area. In the winter of 2007, the group recorded their second demo at TWS Studios in Vacaville , which was released in January 2008. Within a year the band wrote new songs, in January 2009 the first EP followed under the name Leper Colony . Before the recordings, the band had separated from singer Arghandiwal, whereupon Hofmann took over the vocals and came to Fallujah as the new guitarist Rob Maramonte. The EP was recorded under the direction of Sam Pura at Panda Studios in San Francisco. After the release, the band made appearances in Chico , Fresno and Bakersfield . In the summer a two-week tour took place with Antagony von Oakland through California, Oregon , Washington , Idaho , Utah , Colorado , New Mexico and Arizona . Then the band separated from bassist Hoberg and guitarist Maramonte. The band was replaced by guitarist Anthony Borges, who was already active with The Scourge of Medusa, Valkyrja and Suffokate , and Rob Morey, active with The Scourge of Medusa and Rise Of Caligula. The group then went on a month-long tour with Fallen Figure, with the tour taking place in December 2009 and January 2010. In spring 2010 the group separated from Borges, after which Rob Maramonte came back to the band. The band then went on a tour of the west coast of the United States . Then the band began work on their debut album The Harvest Wombs . The album was released on Unique Leader Records in 2011 .

style

According to the band biography on uniqueleader.com , the group was initially influenced by bands like The Acacia Strain , Converge and Despised Icon . Over the course of their career, the band has dealt with topics such as Satanism , religious fundamentalism, philosophical ideas, nature and social fallacies. According to Islander from nocleansinging.com, the band on The Harvest Wombs play a mix of black metal and progressive melodic death metal . The aggressive, fast music is reminiscent of the Fleshgod Apocalypse album Agony . Breakdowns like at the end of the song Prison of the Mind are rare. According to Alexander Eitner from metalnews.de, the band played technical death metal on the album, comparable to the music of Decrepit Birth , but Fallujah's vocals were more varied. There are also parallels to The Faceless , Cynic and Obscura . In the songs, melodic solos and minor jazz influences, as well as ambient and guitar sounds like those of post-black metal bands like Wolves in the Throne Room and Altar of Plagues can be heard.
