Curt Bergmann

Curt Bruno Bergmann (born June 12, 1890 in Radebeul , † May 27, 1971 in Lahr ) was a German tennis player in the early 20th century.

Career

Bergmann, son of factory owner Bruno Bergmann ( Feinseifen- und Perfumefabrik Bergmann & Co. ) and a businessman by profession, won the All-Comers final of the German championships in 1910 , but did not compete in the Challenge Round against Otto Froitzheim . In 1911 he reached the final in Vienna , where he was defeated by Heinrich Kleinschroth . In 1912 he played at the Wimbledon Championships . After he won his first game in singles against the Belgian Paul de Borman , he was clearly defeated by Arthur Gore in three sets. In doubles, he was able to advance to the quarterfinals alongside Moritz von Bissing , in which the two were eliminated in four sets against the American Samuel Hardy and the Canadian Robert Powell . In 1913 he reached the double finals of the indoor world championships in Stockholm with Heinrich Kleinschroth , but the two had to admit defeat there to the French Max Décugis and Maurice Germot .

Until the 1920s, Bergmann was one of the best German tennis players behind Otto Froitzheim , Oscar Kreuzer , Friedrich-Wilhelm Rahe and Robert and Heinrich Kleinschroth . In 1928 he was in the German Davis Cup team against Greece and Spain .

After the Second World War , Bergmann made a decisive contribution in Radebeul from 1946 to ensuring that regular gaming operations could be resumed. From 1947 onwards, Saxony championships for women and men were held under his leadership.

Bergmann had been with Gertrud Hedwig born in 1918. Zschetzsche married.
