Curt Gasteyger

Curt Walter Gasteyger (born March 20, 1929 in Zurich ; † July 14, 2020 in Geneva ) was a Swiss political scientist .

Life

After studying law at the University of Zurich , Gasteyger worked from 1956 to 1959 at the research institute of the German Society for Foreign Policy in Frankfurt am Main and then until 1962 at the International Commission of Jurists in Geneva . From 1964 to 1968 he was director of studies at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London and then until 1974 deputy director of the Atlantic Institute for international Affairs in Paris . From 1974 to 1994 Gasteyger was a professor at the Geneva University Institute for International Studies and from 1978 to 1999 head of the program for studies of strategy and international security. From 1993 until 1998 he was a member of the Consultative Council on Disarmament Questions of the United Nations . In 2003 Gasteyger was awarded the Grand Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
