Curtis Clark (musician)

Curtis Clark (born April 23, 1950 in Chicago ) is an American jazz pianist who was active in the Dutch jazz scene for many years.

Clark studied music theory and composition in Los Angeles at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia before moving to New York City. There he played from the beginning of the 1970s a. a. with Julian Priester , Prince Lasha , David Murray , Billy Bang and Charles Tyler . In 1979 his solo album New York City Wildlife was recorded in the Bimhuis in Amsterdam . He also worked in Amsterdam with his own formations, such as Curtis Clark 5tet and a quintet with Andy Sheppard , Ernst Glerum , Ernst Reijseger , John Tchicai and Louis Moholo , with whom he wrote the two albums Letter to South Africa and Live at the Bimhuis around 1988 grossed. In the 1990s and 2000s he also played with Han Bennink , Dennis González , Tristan Honsinger and Tobias Delius . In the field of jazz he was involved in 36 recording sessions between 1971 and 2009.
