Curva Pucará is a town in the La Paz department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Curva Pucará is the central place of the canton Curva Pucará in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Laja in the province of Los Andes and is located at an altitude of 3880  m . Cantapa is on a curve of the Ruta 1 highway between the metropolis of El Alto and the border town of Desaguadero . Cantapa is framed by the two rivers, Río Chamaca Jahuira and Río Ninantaya, which flow into the Río Guaquira, which flows 46 kilometers downstream under the name Río Tiwanaku in the Gulf of Tarato into Lake Titicaca .

Curva Pucará is located on the Bolivian Altiplano between the Andes mountain ranges of the Cordillera Occidental in the west and the Cordillera Central in the east. The region's climate is typical of the time of day , with average temperatures fluctuating more during the day than during the year.

Curva Pucará is 61 kilometers by road west of La Paz , the capital of the department.

From La Paz, the paved road Ruta 2 leads west to El Alto and another five kilometers in a north-westerly direction. After a further 21 kilometers in a westerly direction, Ruta 1 crosses the Río Guaquira in the direction of Tiawanacu near Curva Pucará . Due to the historical population development, the region has a high proportion of Aymara population, in the municipality of Laja 97.2 percent of the population speak the Aymara language .
