Cuscuta planiflora is a plant from the genus silk ( Cuscuta ) in the family of wind plants (Convolvulaceae). Like all species in this genus, it is a parasite .

description

Cuscuta planiflora has thin and highly branched stems .

The flowers are about 1.5 to 2.5 mm in size and five-fold. They stand in spherical, compact balls with a diameter of 5 to 6 mm. The calyx is white or rarely pink, as long as the corolla tube and deeply split. The calyx lobes are longer than the calyx tube and clearly swollen, so that they are almost semicircular in cross section. They are elongated or, more rarely, egg-shaped. The crown is colored white, the corolla lobes are protruding, pointed, often with a hood tip, and about as long as the bell-shaped corolla tube. The anthers protrude beyond the crown. The scales at the base of the crown are elongated, usually reach the stamens and are briefly fringed. The styles , including the stigma , are about as long as the ovary .

The fruits are pressed-in spherical capsules that are covered by the remains of the crown. The seeds are shorter than 1 mm.

The chromosome number is 2n = 14, 26, 28 or 34.

Occurrence

The range of the species includes Macaronesia, Madagascar, Eritrea to South Africa and extends from the Mediterranean area to northwestern India. The species parasitizes on dwarf shrubs and annual plants .
