Cyborg 3: The Recycler

Cyborg 2 (alternatively: Cyborg 2: The Glass Shadow ) is an American science fiction - action film by Michael Schroeder from the year 1993 . It is a sequel to the SF action film Cyborg from 1989. The film was released on video in November 1993 in Germany.

In 2074, the cybernetics market will be dominated by two competing companies: the American Pinwheel Robotics and the Japanese Kobayashi Electronics. Cyborgs are commonplace and are used by soldiers and prostitutes alike. Casella "Cash" Reese is a cyborg that Pinwheel developed for corporate espionage and murder. It is filled with a liquid explosive called "Glass Shadow". Martin Dunn, CEO of Pinwheel, intends to get rid of Kobayashi's entire board of directors by using Cash as a suicide bomber , enabling a hostile takeover of the company and gaining monopoly on the cyborg market.

Cash is programmed to mimic human sensations such as fear, love, pain, and hate. Cash and her combat trainer Colton "Colt" Ricks fall in love and want to escape to Mozambique so that Cash can avoid self-destruction, the mandatory end of most cyborgs. Led by Mercy, a rogue cyborg prototype who can communicate using any electronic device, Cash and Ricks flee the pinwheel facility. A murderer and sniffer, Daniel Bench, hired by Pinwheel, tirelessly pursues the fugitives.

Bench faces a rival bounty hunter named Chen. Chen plans to kill Ricks and reprogram Cash to get her to blow up Pinwheel in retaliation to Director Dunn for punishing him for his past behavior towards her. Chen and Ricks get into a fight that ends with Chen being electrocuted by a fuse box.

Mercy proves to be a hybrid between human and Android, a previous effort by Pinwheel to create the next level in human evolution. But Mercy could disappear before his memories could be erased. Ricks and Bench get into an illegal boxing tournament for life and death, in which Bench is mutilated by a rotating fan and dies. After winning the tournament, Cash and Ricks flee and begin a new life in Africa while Mercy confronts Dunn, accusing him of ruining his life.

Dunn tells Mercy that he did everything for the good of humanity. Undeterred, Mercy activates his own Glass Shadow bomb, kills Dunn, and destroys the Pinwheel headquarters. The final scene of the movie shows Cash staying young and beautiful while Ricks continues to age. When Cash finally realizes that Ricks has died, she decides to shut herself down and remains in a dream state forever.

Reviews

Harald Keller wrote in his book Angelina Jolie that it was evident that the director had limited financial resources. However, he used " some original ideas " and used the locations " quite imaginative and witty ". Some lines of dialogue by Jack Palance are " robust ". Angelina Jolie plays “ consciously economical ”.

Scott Weinberg wrote on efilmcritic.com that he suspected the sequel was being shot just to make the previous film look a little better.
