WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2006 is part of the Smackdown - sports game series from THQ . The game was released on November 11, 2005 in Germany and is available for the PlayStation 2 and PSP . The game was sold 2.9 million times.

The game allows players to wrestlers from the roster of RAW and Smackdown or to control as well as some legends in battles with these wrestlers a complete storyline to experience. Around 60 different characters can be selected in the game. In addition to the existing wrestlers, the player can also create his own. After a fighter and a match type has been selected, the game shows an animation that shows the game character before the fight. This sequence, called the Wrestling Entrance , differs from wrestler to wrestler and is accompanied by music and a video, sometimes fireworks.

The aim of the fights is different depending on the type of match. For example, an opponent has to be thrown through a table, buried alive or brought to surrender.

In addition to simple matches, there is also a story mode, called "season" in the game. In this mode, the player accompanies a wrestler through a season consisting of several fights. Dialogues are occasionally played between these fights. According to the manufacturer, some of these dialogues are said to have been spoken by human role models. The aim of the mode is to fight for championship titles, among other things, and to end the season successfully.

A new feature is the "General Manager Mode". The player can choose between RAW and SmackDown! choose. He has to create matches and make sure that they are well received by the audience. You can choose between different promotions that stimulate the audience's interest. For this purpose, the player has, for example, advertising spots available that can be shown during the show. Innovations compared to the predecessor

The HUD has been redesigned and expanded with several new displays. This shows the time required to carry out a finishing move . Such an attack can cause more damage to the opposing pawn than a normal attack. (This display is called the "momentum display")
