Cylindropuntia spinosior is a species of the genus Cylindropuntia in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet spinosior is the enhancement of spinosus and means 'thorny, prickly, prickly'. Common names are "Cane Cholla" and "Spiny Cholla".

Cylindropuntia spinosior grows compact and tree-shaped with twigs arranged in whorls and reaches heights of 0.4 to 2 meters. On the green to slightly purple-colored, 5 to 23 centimeters long and 1.3 to 3.5 centimeters in diameter shoot sections there are protruding oval bumps. The areoles , which are often elliptical, yellow to tan-colored , become darker with age and wear 1 to 2 millimeters long inconspicuous yellow to tan-colored glochids that turn gray with age. The four to 24 interlocking spines are present on most areoles. They are tan to pink to reddish brown. The loosely fitting sheaths of the thorns are whitish.
The flowers are pink to reddish purple, bronze purple, yellow or whitish. The broad, cylindrical, yellow, purple-tinged fruits are fleshy and heavily wilted. They are 2 to 5 centimeters long and 1.7 to 3 centimeters in diameter. The fruits rarely proliferate.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Cylindropuntia spinosior is distributed in the United States in the states of Arizona and New Mexico, as well as in the Mexican states of Sonora , Chihuahua and Durango in semi-deserts and grasslands at altitudes of 600 to 2000 meters.
The first description as Opuntia whipplei var. Spinosior by George Engelmann was published in 1856. Frederik Marcus Knuth placed the variety in the genus Cylindropuntia in 1936 . A nomenclature synonym is Opuntia spinosior (Engelm.) Toumey (1898).
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered. The development of the populations is considered stable.
