Life

Cyprien Iov grew up in the Var department in a family of Romanian origin.

In April 2007, Iov started posting videos, tests and humorous podcasts on his blog via Dailymotion. His unusual videos and illustrations can be seen on the blog monsieurdream.com (today: cyprien.fr). After a while, Cyprien Iov decides to switch to YouTube.

Three months after the blog opened, Iov took part in a competition organized by Loïc Le Meur, open to all bloggers. The jury consisting of eleven other bloggers chose Cyprien Iov, known as Monsieur Dream, as the winner from among the 47 candidates. So Iov received 500 € and the possibility to write on the blog Le Meurs.

In April 2008, Iov dropped out after six months at the University of Aix-Marseille in order to move to Paris and there to animate the Rewinds for the news site 20 minutes .

A short time later, Iov was discovered by the group Le Velcrou , consisting of Norman Thavaud , Marc Jarousseau (known as Kemar) and Hugo Dessioux (known as Hugo tout seul) and eventually became part of the group. Iov later made various collaborations with them.

In August 2010, Iov left 20 minutes to work on his own television series. 12 infos de Cyprien was a 5-minute humorous TV journal on NRJ 12 , which Iov broadcast together with Maxime Musqua from Monday to Friday.

From May 2011, NRJ 12 asked him to produce a humorous animation entitled Le mot de la fin de Cyprien for the second and third seasons of the show Les Anges , for which he also agreed to produce. On December 9, 2011, Iov's show 12 infos de Cyprien was canceled.

His YouTube channel, on the other hand, continued to grow, mainly due to the video Cyprien répond à Cortex . As of December 2011, Iov published several sketches and drawings that he created during his spare time on his website pourkwa.com.

On January 12, 2012, Cyprien Iov was also on the stage of Zapping Amazing , a comic spectacle at the Parisian Grand Rex . Also Norman Thavaud and other artists like Mister V, Gonzague and the duo from Palmashow.

In April 2013 Iov founded a second channel called CyprienGaming together with the web video producer Squeezie, on which he deals with everything to do with computer games. Some videos were also made with Norman Thavaud and Maxime Musqua. With one million subscribers at the end of November 2013 and three million in June 2015, the channel can now boast over 4.5 million subscribers.

On May 2, 2013, Iov began to produce his own designs with his brand Narmol T-shirts. In addition, from November 2014 he no longer shot his videos in his Paris apartment, but in a studio.

With technophobe Iov published his first short film on January 24, 2015. Various other productions followed over the next few years, for example with Le Hater and La Cartouche .

His first comic entitled Roger et ses humains , which he created with Paka and Marie Ecarlat, was published by Dupuis on November 20, 2015 . The comic was a bestseller for a long time and should also get a sequel. His first mobile video game Nope Quiz followed a month later .

On December 3, 2016, his main channel finally reached 10 million subscribers. So he's also the biggest French YouTuber.

In July 2017, the 10-part miniseries Presque adultes was broadcast, in which he can be seen together with Norman and Natoo. In the same month followed the MP3 saga L'Épopée temporelle , which is about a man (voiced by Cyprien Iov), a woman and a robot who travel through time.

criticism

In December 2014, L'Express magazine published a report on various business relationships between Cyprien Iov and companies. Although Iov represents himself as an "independent and self-employed" YouTuber, the magazine found that he was working with the Mixicom company. Mixicom, a communications company that specializes in the production of media productions, will own both Iov channels. This connection between the blogger and the company becomes particularly clear when looking at his video productions.

Several videos were funded by various organizations without ever being mentioned. It should be mentioned here that an employee of Ubisoft is said to have made an appeal to influential Youtubers, including Cyprien Iov, to promote the game Watch Dogs . Later, however, Iov's video had no information for a promotion.

The magazine L'Express later referred to Article 20 in the Consumer Protection Act, which states that sponsorship must be clearly identifiable for the consumer. For this reason Iov can also be legally prosecuted.
