Czeremcha ( Belarusian Чаромха Čaromcha ) is a village in the powiat Hajnowski of the Podlaskie Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the rural community of the same name .

geography

Czeremcha is located in the south of the Podlaskie Voivodeship, about 30 kilometers southwest of the district town of Hajnówka . A few kilometers south of the village, in Połowce, there is a border crossing to the nearby Belarusian border.

history

The place was in a document from the first time in 1533 Sigismund I mentioned. Initially the place name was Ożarowo , later the place was called Czeremucha , which then changed to today's place name Czeremcha . From 1975 to 1998 the Czeremcha belonged to the Białystok Voivodeship , which became part of the Podlaskie Voivodeship as a result of the administrative reform.

Roman Catholic Church

In Czeremcha there is an Orthodox and a Roman Catholic parish. Since its inception, the place has belonged to both the Roman Catholic and Orthodox parishes in Kleszczele , until separate parishes were founded in each case.

Orthodox

The Orthodox parish includes a church and a cemetery chapel. The chapel is several hundred years old, construction of the church began in 1987 when it was decided to found its own Orthodox community. The construction was completed in 1991.

Roman Catholic

In 1932 a wooden chapel was built near the train station, and in 1935 an independent parish was founded in Czeremcha. During the Second World War , this chapel was completely destroyed by the Germans on New Year's Eve 1942, which is why the services were held in private houses until 1946. On September 23, 1957, a church was completed and dedicated to St. Mary .

traffic

Two railway lines from Białystok and Siedlce end in Czeremcha . From Czeremcha there is also a train connection to the nearby Belarusian city of Brest .

The national road DK 66 , which connects Czeremcha with Bielsk Podlaski and the Belarusian border, runs through the municipality .
