The thinspur butterwort ( Pinguicula leptoceras ), also thinsporn butterwort or white pied butterwort , is a carnivorous plant from the genus of butterflies ( Pinguicula ), in the section Pinguicula . It was first described in 1823 by Heinrich Gottlieb Ludwig Reichenbach .

description

Towards winter the plant forms a hibernacle and does not form leaves again until spring. Five to eleven fleshy, yellowish to light green, elongated-elliptical leaves form a rosette up to 8 cm in diameter, lying flat on the ground. On the surface, the leaves are sticky from the trapping secretions with which they catch small insects (e.g. sciarid gnats , ants ), but also pollen and, as soon as prey is obtained, digest them with enzymes . In June and July the butterwort blooms on a stalk up to 10 cm high, growing from the center of the rosette, blue-violet with a white throat spot in single, zygomorphic, 20 to 30 mm long, roll-spurred flowers. The egg-shaped fruit capsules that form bear plenty of fine, black seeds. The roots are white and fine. Flowering time is from May to July.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 32.

distribution

The plant is a Alps - endemic and comes in Switzerland , Western Austria ( Carinthia , Salzburg , Tyrol , Vorarlberg ), southeastern France and northern Italy before. This species likes bright locations on moist silicate soils between 1300 and 3000 meters above sea level. It is a character species of the Caricetum davallianae. It is not found in the German Alps.
