DSB tractor 56 and DSB tractor 57 , as a Ranger tractor (56 and 57 German  Rangiertraktor ), are light gasoline - shunting tractors that were built 1,953th They were used under the designation DSB 56 and DSB 57 on the lines of the Danske Statsbaner ( German  Danish State Railways ) in Denmark . The two shunting tractors were used for smaller transport tasks and for shunting on connecting railways and in Denmark's train stations.

History and description

In 1953, the Danish company Pedershåb Maskinfabrik ( German  Maschinenfabrik Pedershaab ) built several rail tractors of this type for some Danish private railways. The construction costs of a vehicle amounted to 42,325 crowns . There is no more precise information about the total number of units and the use and whereabouts of the other built shunting locomotives that were used by private railways and companies.

The Danish State Railways put construction number 456/1953 into service as DSB 56 and construction number 457/1953 as DSB 57 .

The locomotives were traveling with a 6-cylinder truck Bedford equipped -Benzinmotor and had to a Scania Vabis - reversing gear . They have a mechanical handbrake and electrical interior lighting.

Until it was decommissioned in 1973, the DSB 56 was only used in Centralværkstedet Aarhus in Aarhus in the Vest region, then it was parked there and scrapped in 1977.

DSB 57 was used in the DSB-Wagenwerkstatt Nyborg from 1953 to 1956 and with a short interruption until 1968 . He then went to Vesterbro from 1969 and returned to Nyborg in 1970. This was followed by a deployment from 1970 to 1974 in Centralværkstedet København . In 1975 DSB 57 was used in Vigerslev , Glostrup and on the routes of the former Amagerbane .

At the same time he was provided by the Danish State Railways for the shooting of the film The Olsen Gang set the course . In 1976 the shunting tractor returned to the central workshop in Copenhagen until 1980, and from 1981 to 1988 it was in the Øst region and then in Helsingør until 1989 .

Most recently, it was in a DSB workshop in Copenhagen until 1990. Then it was brought from Copenhagen on a trailer to Odense in October 1993 and parked on the local sidings. From 1993 to 2001 the locomotive was in poor condition on the local railway site.

From 2001 the shunting tractor was extensively restored. Since 2003 it has been in the Danish Railway Museum ( Danmarks Jernbanemuseum ).

Coloring

The two shunting tractors built for the Danish State Railways were initially painted green. The wheels, frames and brackets on both vehicles were black. The DSB 56 kept its green color until it was scrapped in 1977. From 1968 the DSB 57 shunting locomotive was repainted in orange and from 1981 to 1988 the vehicle that has been preserved until today was painted red. After the restoration in 2001, it was painted orange again.

Special

The orange-colored shunting tractor DSB 57 was featured in the Danish feature film The Olsen Gang in 1975 , which focuses on the points from the series of films on the Olsen Gang. With the "borrowed" shunting locomotive DSB 57 , the gang stole a vault wagon equipped with gold bars in order to transport it on the tracks of the Danish State Railways in Copenhagen and the former Amagerbanen to the port city of Dragør auf Amager .
