The Dachsberg (also: Vorderer Dachsberg ) is located in the north-western Odenwald, approx. 0.9 km south-east of Darmstadt . The mountain in the Darmstadt forest area is heavily forested. Immediately to the north-west of the summit there is an elevated water tank and a transmission mast , and immediately north of the summit is the wooden shelter "Klipstein-Tempel". The refuge was named after Philipp Engel von Klipstein. At the northeastern foot of the mountain is the listed tomb of Darmstadt forester Philipp Engel von Klipstein . At the southeastern foot of the mountain is the "Wilbrand-Brünnchen" which is part of the Darmbachaue nature reserve . Immediately to the west of the “Wilbrand-Brünnchens”, at the southern foot of the Dachsberg, is the “Paul-Trinkglas-Tempel” refuge.

etymology

To Old High German and Middle High German dahs with the meaning " badger ". The name Dachsberg refers to the preferred locations and structures of the roof. The mountain is nicknamed "Vorderer Dachsberg" to distinguish it from the nearby "Hinterer Dachsberg".

Others

There were several toboggan runs and a barbecue hut on the northern slope of the Dachsberg. These systems no longer exist today.
