Dagobert Roderich Achilles von Vegesack (born January 14, 1769 in Wismar , Mecklenburg , Kingdom of Sweden ; † June 17, 1850 in Oliva near Danzig , Province of Prussia ) was a Prussian major , as well as resident and police chief in Danzig.

Life

The father Friedrich von Vegesack was a Baltic German officer and entrepreneur in Wismar and Stockholm, the mother Sophia Magdalena a daughter of the Mecklenburg landowner Ernst Ludwig von Blücher. Dagobert von Vegesack embarked on an officer career in the Prussian army since 1887 and was part of a regiment near Marienburg in West Prussia. He finished his military career with the rank of major.

In 1807 he was sent as a Prussian resident (envoy) to Danzig, which had been conquered by French troops. From there he also wrote reports to the Foreign Ministry in Berlin.

In 1814 Dagobert von Vegesack became police chief in the again Prussian city. Under his leadership, changes were made to the structure of the local police department. In 1834 he retired.

Dagobert von Vegesack lived in Danzig at Frauengasse 11 (1807-1814) and Langgasse 537 (1814-1840), then in the former abbot's palace in Oliva.

He was married to Johanna Friederike Lesser. Sons were

  • Achilles Caesar von Vegesack (1809–1850), appraisal of the Supreme Court
  • Ernst Bruno von Vegesack (1816–1854 / 57), Rittmeister of the Prussian cavalry
