Dahod is a city in the state of Gujarat in western India . It is the capital of the Dahod district of the same name . Dahod has the status of a municipality and is divided into 16 wards (constituencies). It is located near the border with the states of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh . From Dahod it is 214 kilometers to Ahmedabad and 159 kilometers to Vadodara .

The Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb was born in the fortress of Dahod in 1618. Aurangzeb is said to have later ordered his ministers to prefer this city as it was his birthplace.

Demographics

According to the 2011 census, the population of the city is 118,846 and that of the agglomeration is 130,503. Dahod has a gender ratio of 964 women per 1000 men and thus a male surplus typical for India. The literacy rate was 83.0% in 2011. Almost 65.1% of the population are Hindus , around 31.6% are Muslims and around 3.3% belong to other religions. 14.0% of the population are children under six years of age.

economy

Dahod is also a medical center for Gujarat and the bordering states of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Dahod is home to a few non-profit health centers such as the Urban Bank Hospital, the Anjuman Trust, and the Government Hospital. There is also a non-profit eye clinic in town.

Dahod was selected as one of the hundred Indian cities to be developed as a smart city under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's flagship Smart Cities mission .

Infrastructure

Dahod Station is part of Indian Railways' Western Railway Zone and is on the Delhi to Mumbai route . Dahod is also connected to all major Gujarat cities by public transportation operated by the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation .
