The Damanganga ( Gujarati : દમણગંગા Damaṇgaṅgā [ ˌd̪ʌmʌɳˈɡʌŋɡɑː ], also: Daman Ganga ) is an approx. 131 km long coastal river in western India .
course
The Damanganga rises in the sparsely populated mountains of the Western Ghats in the Nashik district in the state of Maharashtra at an altitude that is heavily dependent on the respective rainfall. From there it runs first in a westerly direction and later in a north-westerly direction and flows through the district of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, which was formerly controlled by Portugal . After entering the Gujarat area for a short stretch and flowing southwest of the city of Vapi , it empties into the Arabian Sea near the city of Daman , the capital of the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu .
Reservoirs
At its middle course, the Damanganga is dammed to the Madhuban reservoir .
pollution
To the northwest of the industrial cities of Silvassa and Vapi , the river is heavily polluted with sewage of all kinds.
