Damir Burić (born July 7, 1964 in Split ) is a Croatian football coach and former player .

Career

As a player

His professional career in Germany began in 1988 at SV Waldhof Mannheim , who signed Burić from RNK Split . After three seasons, he moved to MTV Ingolstadt in 1991 and a year later to the then second division club SC Freiburg , with whom he was promoted to the Bundesliga twice and relegated once.

After he had only one appearance in the league in the 1998/99 season, he moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach . He played a total of 121 Bundesliga and 70 second division games.

As a trainer

From 2001 Burić began his career as a trainer in the youth academy of SC Freiburg . At the same time he became assistant coach of the Freiburg team. He later held the same position on the professional team. In 2005 he successfully completed the football teacher training course at the German Sport University in Cologne. In 2009 he was an assistant coach with SC Freiburg, champions of the 2nd Bundesliga and was promoted to the first Bundesliga.

For the 2011/12 season, he moved to Bayer 04 Leverkusen together with the then Freiburg head coach Robin Dutt , but was also dismissed together with the latter on April 1, 2012. On May 28, 2013 Robin Dutt was introduced as the new coach at Werder Bremen , Burić also became his assistant in Bremen. On October 25, 2014 the coaching team Dutt, Burić and goalkeeping coach Marco Langner were released from the club.

From 2015 to 2016 he was the coach of the Croatian football club Hajduk Split .

In January 2017 he replaced Oliver Lederer at the Austrian Bundesliga club FC Admira Wacker Mödling . In September 2017 he became the coach of the German second division team SpVgg Greuther Fürth . His contract, which is valid until 2019, was prematurely extended by one year in November 2018. In February 2019, the club separated from Burić after the team suffered a 6-0 defeat in Paderborn on match day 20 and fell back from the upper to the lower half of the table over the course of the season.

In the summer of 2019 he took over the coaching position at Hajduk Split again.

Private

Burić is married and has two children.
