Daniel Jeffrey "Dan" Henderson (born August 24, 1970 in Downey , California ) is a retired American wrestler and mixed martial arts fighter.

Henderson was born in Downey, California and attended Victorville High School , where he was a member of the ring team. He later studied at Arizona State University . In 1988 he won the American Junior Championships, both in freestyle and in Greco-Roman style. In 1990 the title FILA Junior World Greco Roman Champion followed . In addition to other titles, he took part for the USA at the Summer Olympics in Barcelona in 1992 and in Atlanta in 1996 , where he was tenth and twelfth in the Greco-Roman style.

Henderson started MMA in 1997. He had his first fights on June 15th at the Brazil Open Fight in Brazil , where he defeated his opponents Crezio de Souza and Eric Smith by technical knockout and won the tournament. He then went into the Ultimate Fighting Championship and defeated on May 15, 1998 in UFC 17: Redemption Allan Goes and Carlos Newton , making him Middleweight Tournament Champion . In 1999 he moved to the Japanese organizer Rings and defeated five opponents in two events, including Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira . On December 9, 2000 he suffered his first defeat at the Pride event Cold Fury in Saitama against Wanderlei Silva . In the next fight, on March 25, 2001, he won against Renzo Gracie by knockout. Henderson stayed with Pride FC until bankruptcy in 2007 and completed 16 fights there. In his last fight in Pride FC, he defeated Wanderlei Silva on February 24, 2007 in Las Vegas and became Pride Middleweight Champion . After Pride FC went bankrupt , he returned to the UFC and lost at UFC 75: Champion vs. Champion on September 8th 2007 at the O2 Arena in London against Quinton Jackson . In his next fight, at UFC 82 on March 1, 2008 in Columbus against Anderson Silva , he had to give up in the second round, lying in a rear naked choke . In UFC 88 , on September 6, 2008, he defeated Rousimar Palhares, followed by victories against Rich Franklin in the main fight of UFC 93: Franklin vs. Henderson on January 17, 2009 in Dublin and against Michael Bisping by knockout, at UFC 100 on July 11, 2009 in Las Vegas.

Henderson played his next fight for Strikeforce , where he lost to Jake Shields on April 17, 2010 . This was followed by victories in December against Renato Sobral and on March 5, 2011 against Rafael Cavalcante. On April 30, 2011 Henderson defeated the legendary Fedor Emelianenko by TKO in the 1st round. Then Henderson left Strikeforce and signed a new contract with the UFC. On November 19, 2011 Henderson met the ex-UFC light heavyweight world champion Mauricio Rua . After a five-round fight that most MMA fans consider to be one of the best fights of all time, Henderson defeated Rua on points. This was followed by a series of defeats, however, in his fight against Vitor Belfort in November 2013 Henderson was knocked out for the first time. Of his last ten fights "Hendo" could only win three, but caused a sensation at UFC 199 with his spectacular knockout win against the favored Hector Lombard . Because UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping wanted a rematch against Henderson, he was surprisingly given the chance to fight for the title at UFC 204 . Despite a strong performance, the 46-year-old lost the fight on points and then retired from active MMA sport. His overall record is 32 wins and 15 losses in 47 fights.

Henderson lives in Temecula with his wife Allison and children . His nicknames are Hollywood, Dangerous Dan, and Hendo. In 2006 he appeared in the episode "Battle of the Giants" (orig. "Fight Schlub") on the television series King of Queens .
