Daniël de Hertaing , Herr von Marquette († 1625 in Heemskerk ) was an officer in the service of the States General during the Eighty Years' War .

Daniël de Hertaing was the eldest son of Willem de Hertaing, Lord of Marquette, knight and governor of the city of Bergen op Zoom and his wife Anne, daughter of Charles de Levin .
Life
Because of his Protestant sentiments, he fled his home in the county of Hainaut . As a Luitenant Colonel in 1600 he commanded a Walloon regiment at the Battle of Nieuwpoort . On June 27, 1603 he was appointed governor of the besieged city of Ostend by the States General . He handed the city over to Archduke Albrecht of Austria on September 20, 1604 with the permission of the States General . Since he was badly wounded in his left leg and right arm, he signed with his left.
Daniël took part in the battle of Mülheim on October 9, 1605 under the command of Moritz von Oranien . He became Luitenant-Generaal of the cavalry on May 5, 1606 . In February 1609 he commanded his troops in the second battle near Mülheim .
