Daniel Arzani (born January 4, 1999 in Khorramabad , Iran ) is an Australian football player . The attacking midfielder is under contract with Manchester City in the Premier League and is an Australian international .

Childhood and family

Daniel Arzani was born in 1999 in the Iranian city of Khorramabad. He moved to Australia with his family at the age of six and grew up playing street football and futsal in Sydney .

Career

Armani began his career in the youth department of Sydney FC . In 2016 he first moved to the second team of Melbourne City FC . In the final of the A-League National Youth League 2017, he scored the decisive goal for the final victory.

Arzani moved to Melbourne City FC's first team the following season. He scored his first goal in the A-League on January 25, 2018 against the Newcastle United Jets .

In August 2018, Arzani was awarded to the Scottish first division club Celtic Glasgow . He made his debut on October 31, 2018 in the Scottish Premiership league game against FC Dundee when he came on for Odsonne Édouard . In his first competitive game for Celtic, he suffered a serious injury to the cruciate ligament .

National team

Arzani went through the U17, U20 and U23 youth teams of the Australian national team. He was appointed to the squad for the 2014 U16 Asian Cup and that of the 2015 U17 World Cup . When he was faced with the choice of playing internationally for his native Iran or his current homeland Australia, he decided on the latter.

At the age of 19, Arzani was appointed to the preliminary roster of the Australian national team for the 2018 World Cup in Russia . He played his first game in the A-selection on June 1, 2018 in a friendly against the Czech Republic . The following day national coach Bert van Marwijk nominated him for the final squad for the World Cup. He was substituted on in all three group matches against France, Denmark and Peru.
