Daniel Gaemperle

Daniel Gaemperle (born June 27, 1954 in Algiers ) is a Swiss painter and graphic artist .

Life

Daniel Gaemperle was born as the son of Jakob and Verena Gämperle-Wohlfender as a Swiss abroad in Algiers , Algeria, where he also attended primary school. In 1962 the family fled to Oberuzwil because of the Algerian war of liberation , where the grandparents lived. He attended schools in Oberuzwil, Oberwil and Basel (FES-Free Evangelical School - today FG-Free High School). From 1970 to 1974 he was trained as a structural draftsman at Basler Architekten. During his apprenticeship he took part in courses at the School of Design in Basel . He has been a freelance artist since 1978; he has lived and worked in Kleinlützel and Alignan-du-Vent , France , since 1987 .

Gaemperle's work includes painting, drawing, original printmaking, stained glass, and reverse glass painting . His works adapt to the materials, while his abstract shapes remain soft and organic. At the beginning of the 1980s he won great art in building competitions a. a. of the Kunstkredit Basel-Stadt and was able to realize some of them. Several group exhibitions of Swiss art in museums followed (Tokyo, Taiwan, Portugal, Spain, Mexico). In 1987 he had a “one man show” at Art Basel (Galerie Giséle Linder). For the historic Schmelzihof administration building in Balsthal, he designed three pieces of glass, including the wedding room.

  • 1990: 1st prize in the competition for the redesign of the chancel of the Notre-Dame Cathedral (Lausanne) (not carried out)
  • 1987: 1st prize from the municipality of Rorschach for a sculpture on Lake Constance (not executed)
  • 1986: 1st prize in the competition for a mural in the Lindenhof school complex, Wil SG. 1st prize art credit Basel-Stadt, wall design Elsässerrheinweg. 1st prize from the Federal Art Commission for the glass roof of the ETH Zurich , IT Center
  • 1983: 1st prize, art credit from the city of Basel, mural Aula Gundeldinger Schulhaus. 1st prize, Baselland art credit, sculpture in front of the Binningen municipal administration (not executed). 1st prize, parish Murten FR, in the competition for 13 church windows (not executed)
  • 1981: Scholarship from the Pro Arte Foundation, Bern. Prize in the graphics competition "150 Years of the Canton of Basellandschaft"
