Daniel García Lara (born December 22, 1974 in Cerdanyola del Vallès ), better known as Dani , is a former Spanish football player .
Career
Dani, a graduate of Real Madrid's Football Academy, played his first league game for Los Blancos on February 5, 1994 in a 2-0 win against Deportivo La Coruña . In the following season he again completed a league game for Real Madrid and played for the second team at the same time . Between 1995 and 1997 Dani was loaned to Real Zaragoza . There he came back regularly and scored 8 goals in 71 games. In the 1997/98 season, in which Real Madrid won the Champions League , he was used eight times in the Primera División, not a single one from the start. The Catalan moved to RCD Mallorca for the 1998/99 season . As the team's top scorer, he helped them to qualify for the Champions League for the first time with third place in the Primera División. In addition, they reached the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup 1998/99 , in which the team, however, despite a goal by Dani, had to admit defeat 1: 2 to Lazio Rome .
In 1999 he was transferred to FC Barcelona , where he was the club's third best scorer with 11 league goals in his first year . Dani was never undisputed in Barcelona and in the following season he played in the league only four times from the start and ten times as a substitute. Between 2001 and 2003 he was plagued by injuries, so that he could only play nine league games during this period.
After he was without a club for the first half of the 2003/04 season, he signed a contract with Real Zaragoza for the second half of the season . He helped his team stay relegated and win the Spanish Cup final. In the final he scored against his former club Real Madrid for a 1-1 equalizer; Zaragoza won the game 3-2 after extra time.
The 2004/05 season he played for Espanyol Barcelona , then played alongside his former Barça teammate Rivaldo for Olympiacos . In the middle of the second season with the Greeks, he left Olympiacos to play briefly for the Turkish club Denizlispor . He let his career end in the 2007/08 season with the Tercera División club Rayo Majadahonda .
For the Spanish national team , he made five international matches (one goal) between 1998 and 2000. He played his first international match on November 18, 1998 in a 2-2 draw against Italy in Salerno .
Dani also took part with the Spanish Olympic selection at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta .
