Daniel Tsiokas

Daniel Tsiokas - birth name Daniel Cioca ( Greek Ντανιελ Τσιόκας; born June 19, 1971 in Cluj-Napoca ) is a former Greek table tennis player . From 1993 to 2006 he took part in ten world championships and five European championships, as well as three Olympic Games .

Career

Tsiokas was born in Romania under the name Daniel Cioca and also performed under the Romanian flag. In 1987 he was European youth champion in singles by beating Belgian Jean-Michel Saive in the final , and he also won the adult Balkan Championship. In the early 1990s he emigrated to Greece and changed his name to Ntaniel Tsiokas or Daniel Tsiokas . From then on he started internationally for Greece.

Daniel Tsiokas is a defender . From 1993 to 2006 he took part in ten world championships and five European championships , but here he never came close to medal ranks. In 1996 he qualified for the first time for the individual competition of the Olympic Games . Here he ended up after victories over Danny Heister (Netherlands) and Paul Mutambuze (Uganda) and a defeat against the Chinese Wang Tao only in second place in the group matches and was eliminated. At the Olympic Games in 2000 he competed in singles and doubles. In the singles he defeated Majidreza Ehteshamzadeh (Iran), but lost to the Dutchman Trinko Keen . The doubles with Kalinikos Kreanga won against Simon Gerada / Mark Smythe (Australia) and lost to Cheung Yuk / Leung Chu Yan (Hong Kong). At the Olympic Games 2008 he was only represented in the team competition and came in ninth.

In 1996 Daniel Tsiokas moved from the Greek club AC Zografu to the German Bundesliga for 1. FC Bayreuth . In 1998 he was hired by TTV Hornstein from Austria.
