Dante Rafael López Fariña (born August 16, 1983 in Asunción ) is a former Paraguayan football player . The striker played in the top leagues of Paraguay and Mexico for most of his career, alongside brief appearances in Israel, Spain and Italy. He played 28 international matches for the Paraguayan national soccer team and took part in the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Club career

López initially played for the Paraguayan first division team Sol de América from Barrio Obrero , a suburb of the capital Asunción, and the club Cerro Porteño , which is also located there . In 2003 he moved to Israel to Maccabi Haifa , but stayed there only six months to end the season with the then Spanish second division club FC Córdoba . He then returned to Paraguay, first to Nacional Asunción , then to Olimpia Asunción . From there he went to CFC Genoa in January 2006, a third division team in Italy at the time . For the 2006-07 season, he moved within Italy for one class higher gambling FC Crotone . After the descent of the southern Italians, he went back to Asunción, where he joined the Club Libertad . After winning the Paraguayan Apertura in 2008, he moved to Mexico for the 2008/09 season to join the UNAM Pumas , where he signed a three-year contract. For the university club Dante López made a total of 96 league games and scored 21 goals. Here, too, he won the national championship twice with his team. In the summer of 2011 he left UNAM and went back to his Paraguayan homeland, where he played for Club Guaraní in three following seasons and again for Olimpia in 2013. From 2014 to 2016 López played another three seasons for the UNAM Pumas. In the 2016/17 season he was under contract with the Mexican second division club CD Zacatepec . He found his last job in 2017 with the Paraguayan first division club Deportivo Capiatá .

National team

López was part of Paraguay's junior team , which defeated the German team 2-0 in the group game of the 2003 U-20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates and scored the goal to make it 1-0 themselves.

López made his debut for the senior national team in 2003 and was part of the Paraguayan national team during the 2004 Copa America and the qualifying phase for the World Cup in Germany . Until the 2006 World Cup, however, he was only used in six international matches. Only a few days before the start of the tournament, López was nominated for the title fights by national coach Aníbal Ruiz for the injured José Cardozo . He was substituted on in the preliminary round match against Sweden.

In 2007 and 2008 he was used regularly and played again for Paraguay at the Copa America . From 2009 to 2013 he was only nominated sporadically. He made a total of 28 international matches for Paraguay. The striker scored his only two goals in a friendly against Togo in 2005 .
