features
The wings are usually green or brown in color and have a pattern of curved ribbons and triangles of different colors. The wing tip of the forewings is pointed. The compound eyes are large and hairless. The labial palps are large, blunt and finely scaled. The antennae in the males are bristle-shaped and finely tapered at the end, those of the females are slightly thickened at the end.
The body of the caterpillar tapers sharply towards the front from the first abdomen segment. The head is relatively small. Most species have a noticeable eye spot on each side of the third thoracic segment , and a pale longitudinal line runs along the sides of the abdomen to the anal horn . The horn is short and in the last stage of caterpillars it is curved downwards.

The genus is common in the tropics and subtropics of the ancient world.
Way of life and pre-imaginal stages
The caterpillars feed mainly on trees and bushes of the red family (Rubiaceae) and dog poison family (Apocynaceae). The eggs are spherical and have a pale green, shiny color. The proboscis runs unrolled as a black line along the body of the doll . The pupa is colored black around the spiracles . The cremaster is long and slender and ends in a pair of thorns.
