Until January 2005 he was under contract with Inter Zaprešić. He then moved to Germany in the 2nd Bundesliga to Dynamo Dresden . After initial difficulties and some serious mistakes, as well as being relegated to the bench for a short time, he managed to play his way back into the first team, where he became very popular with the fans thanks to his strong performances.

On March 14, 2006, his contract with Dynamo Dresden was extended until 2008 due to his services. Only three weeks later, however, he tore a cruciate ligament in the game against FC Erzgebirge Aue , which threatened him with sports disability. Because of this, after the relegation of Dynamo Dresden at the end of the season, his contract was canceled by mutual agreement.

After recovering from his injury, he signed a contract for the 2007/08 season with the former league club Hallescher FC , where he has also been the goalkeeper since then. With the HFC he was promoted from the upper league to the third soccer league within five years . In his first season with the Saalestädtern he was champion of the Oberliga Nordost 2008 and thus qualified for the Regionalliga Nord . The following season also ended successfully, Horvat was a sure source of support for his team and led the club to the regional league runner-up. His first goal, also in the 2008/09 season, when he headed 2-2 against Türkiyemspor Berlin , was nominated for Goal of the Month .

In the 2011/12 season he was promoted to the 3rd soccer league with Halleschen FC and returned to professional soccer. During this season Horvat was on the field in all 34 league games over the full playing time and only had to concede 15 goals, which no other goalkeeper managed. For this he was named the best goalkeeper in the fourth division. Also in his third division season he was the undisputed number one goal at Halleschen FC.
