Darren Turcotte (born March 2, 1968 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is a retired American ice hockey player . During his career, he played for the New York Rangers , Hartford Whalers , Winnipeg Jets , San Jose Sharks , St. Louis Blues and Nashville Predators in the National Hockey League between 1988 and 2000 .
Career
Turcotte first played four years from 1984 to 1988 in the Ontario Hockey League with the North Bay Centennials . During this time he was selected by the New York Rangers in the sixth round of the 1986 NHL Entry Draft in 114th position.
After the Rangers had used the center in the 1987/88 season in the International Hockey League , they did so in the 1988/89 season . They also used him in 20 NHL games. From the 1989/90 season Turcotte belonged to the regular roster of the Rangers in the NHL and took part in 1991 , in his best NHL season with 67 points in 74 games, in the All-Star Game . At the end of the changeover period of the 1993/94 game year , the Rangers gave up the American for Steve Larmer , two other players and a draft pick to the Hartford Whalers . After only one and a half years in Hartford, he was handed over to Nelson Emerson at Winnipeg Jets . Turcotte did not stay long in Winnipeg either, as he had to change clubs again in March 1996. This time the Jets sent him in exchange for Craig Janney and a draft pick to the San Jose Sharks , who sent him to the St. Louis Blues in the summer of 1997 for Stéphane Matteau . With the Blues he only stayed a year and joined the newly formed Nashville Predators . For this he played the entire season 1998/99 , but after suffering a knee injury in the season 1999/00 , in which he could only play nine games, he ended his career on March 14, 2000.
After finishing his career, he began to work as an ice hockey coach in the youth sector.
International
Turcotte participated for the USA in the Junior World Championships in 1987 and 1988 , as well as the Senior World Championships in 1993 . However, he could not win a medal.
