Darryl Adonis Thompson (also Daryl "Babe" Thompson , * 1955 ; † May 19, 2014 ) was an American guitarist (also electric bass , keyboards , drums ) who was active in both reggae and jazz .

Darryl Thompson was a son of the jazz musician Lucky Thompson , with whom he had his first music lessons. While in college he studied with Chuck Wayne and Pat Martino . He played with Sly & Robbie in the late 1970s , appeared with Peter Tosh at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1979 and was a member of Black Uhuru ( Anthem , 1983) in the early 1980s . He also took part in the recordings of a number of jazz musicians, including a. with Bill Watrous , Robin Kenyatta , John Lee / Gerry Brown , Charles Earland , Sam Rivers and David Murray . Most recently he lived in Atlanta, worked as a jeweler and played in the band Taxi Gang . He composed the song It Should Have Been You for Gwen Guthrie .
