The Darthang Monastery ( tib . : dar thang dgon pa ) or Pelyül-Darthang monastery ( tib . : dpal yul dar thang dgon pa ) or Pelyül monastery ( dpal yul dgon pa ; Chinese Báiyù Sì 白玉 寺) in the southern Amdo is one of the fastest developing Nyingmapa monasteries in the Golog region. It is the largest monastery of the Nyingma School in the border region of the Chinese provinces of Sichuan , Gansu and Qinghai .

The monastery is the most important branch monastery of the Pelyül Monastery ( Tib . : dpal yul dgon pa ) in the Pelyül (Baiyü) district of the same name in Karze (Garzê) in Sichuan , d. H. of the founding monastery of the Pelyül School, a sub- school of the Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism .

The Darthang Monastery is located in the Pelyül ( dpal yul ; Chinese Baiyu xiang 白玉 乡) municipality of the Cigdril (Jigzhi) district of the Golog Autonomous District of the Tibetans in the southeast of the Chinese province of Qinghai at an altitude of about 3,500 meters.

The monastery was founded in 1857 or 1882 by Pelyül Gyatrül Pema Do-ngag Tendzin ( dpal yul rgya sprul padma mdo sngags bstan 'dzin ; 1830-1891), the Living Buddha ( Trülku ) from the Pelyül monastery in Kham.

One of the most important contemporary figures associated with the monastery is Tarthang Tulku Rinpoche .

The current Akung Rinpoche was enthroned in the Darthang Monastery.

In 1938 the monastery was attacked and destroyed by troops of the local warlord Ma Bufang .

For Baiyu Qiaozhi 白玉 乔 智, the former vice-president of the Association of Buddhists of Qinghai Province , who did a lot for his reconstruction, after his death a stupa was built in his honor in the monastery, which is considered the noblest grave stupa in a Tibetan Buddhist Monastery in Qinghai Province.
