The Secret of Scaramouche , also known as The Avenger with the Sword , is a Spanish-French-Italian adventure film about the comedic character of Scaramouche with Gérard Barray in the lead role.

Just in time for the carnival, the jugglers around Scaramouche set up their stage in Paris. Scaramouche has a heart for beautiful women. He receives a visit from the Marquis de Souchil, who asks him strange questions about his past. De Souchil is found murdered a little later and Scaramouche comes under suspicion. He can escape and wants to find out on his own which secret de Souchil was on the trail. A game of cat and mouse begins.

The film opened in Spanish cinemas on September 23, 1963. It was first seen in Germany on March 28, 1964, and in the GDR on December 29, 1967.
