action

The siblings Jeannie and Robert from Chicago are taking the bus to Lost Creek to spend the summer vacation there. During a short stopover, Robert photographs the surrounding area and thinks he has seen a snowman . When they arrive in the sleepy town of Lost Creek, they are welcomed by their grandparents. Jeannie gets a position as a reporter for his local newspaper from her grandfather Henry. In the archive she came across a 30-year-old newspaper edition with a reference to a buried treasure. She also gets to know the employee Travis, who tells her about the legend of the gold treasure. Together they get more information and learn about the five riddles that lead to the treasure:

One damp and dark night, I brought my gold to the Lost Creek Bank.
Gold can be found under the highest tree if you get it five paces east of the earth.
The ancient Sasquatch who never sleeps takes care that it is never lost.
Under the talking waters, where the waterfalls quiver, the Lost Creek lies calm and dreams of distant days.
And when the Ox is there in distant days, he will carry my treasure by his strong flanks.

Meanwhile, Robert meets the boy Russy on a foray into the nearby wilderness. They curiously explore an old disused gold mine in which they almost get lost. When Jeannie writes an article about the treasure for the newspaper and tells her grandfather about it, the latter considers publication to be irresponsible and rejects the article. However, due to a mishap, the article is printed and the gold rush breaks out in the city. Jeannie and Travis also track the treasure. A hiking and camping trip to Stone-Face-Mountain brings you closer to the solution. After an eventful night, the group heads back to town, where Robert has his snowman photo developed. The following night, however, the photo evidence was stolen from the newspaper archive by a burglar. Jeannie wants to climb Stone-Face-Mountain again because she saw a light on the mountain two nights earlier. Travis accompanies them there, but all they find is a dark cave. During the daytime descent, Jeannie notices the Augusta Lake, which has a strange shape. Back in town, the traditional gold rush festival is taking place.

After further research Jeannie can finally solve the last puzzle rhyme from meandering Lost Creek River is, and the Backwater -See called Augusta Lake. Jeannie and Travis rush to the lake with Robert and Russy. Travis starts digging, and they can actually dig up the treasure. In a chest they find a 20 kg lump of gold. But they are chased away by the supposed snowman. When they return to the place where they were found, the lump of gold is gone. In the meantime dusk has fallen and Jeannie climbs the mountain again with Travis because the light can be seen there again. Robert and Russy also go on an exploration tour, but are picked up and tied up while they watch mine workers at suspicious loading activities. Jeannie and Travis get to the cave and in turn catch the miners digging for ore illegally. Travis dresses up in the snowman costume lying around to free Robert and Russy. But his costume disguise is exposed and a fight ensues. A fire breaks out, which threatens to spread to stored explosives boxes. Everyone escapes into the open just in time before the tunnel explodes.
