Dabbs Greer
Robert William "Dabbs" Greer (born April 2, 1917 in Fairview , Missouri , † April 28, 2007 in Pasadena , California ) was an American actor .
Life
Greer was born in 1917 as the son of a pharmacist and a language teacher. Between 1943 and 1951 he taught drama at a theater school that was part of the Pasadena Playhouse in California. In the early 1950s, Greer advanced his acting career and appeared in many films and television series, making him one of Hollywood's most sought-after character actors . In the series Adventures of Superman , which ran from 1952 to 1958 , he was the first person in the first episode to be saved by the superhero.
He celebrated his greatest successes with the series Smoking Colts (as Wilbur Jonas), Our Little Farm (as Reverend Robert Alden) and Picket Fences - Tatort Gartenzaun (as Reverend Henry Novotny). In the cinema, Greer has appeared in almost 100 films, not infrequently in westerns . He last played old Paul Edgecomb in the 1999 film The Green Mile . This was followed by appearances in various television series up to and including 2003.
