Good night story
Bedtime stories (regional colloquially bedtime ) are short stories , the children are told up to the age of about 12 years before going to sleep. As a rule, the parents read these stories to their children, but there is now a wide range in other media, especially radio and television .
Oral tradition
Reading a story before going to sleep is a regular evening ritual in many young families. 90% of parents read something to their children between the ages of four and six in the evening. Even before the age of four, 71% of children enjoy a bedtime story. Even with older children up to 12 years of age who can already read themselves, the proportion is still 60%. Even children cannot switch off "at the push of a button" and fall asleep. Fixed, familiar rituals in the evening will help them relax and fall asleep better.
The term "bedtime story" was coined by Jella Lepman , who collected such stories, and has been in use since around 1950. As part of a study, it was found that reading aloud in the evenings lays the foundation for optimal support for a child and makes a decisive contribution to reading socialization.
Electronic media
Radio
The station Rot-Weiß-Rot already had a good night program for children in its program, using the figure of the sandman. ("Tante Marga") Marga Frank (born September 1, 1922 in Vienna), from 1945 at Radio Verkehrs AG (RAVAG) , wrote books for children, girls and fairy tales until the 1950s (1981 decorations for science and art - for her life's work) and designed the figure of the dream male. Under her responsibility, but without naming speakers or authors, including the well-known children's book authors Christine Nöstlinger , Mira Lobe and Käthe Recheis , 365 different stories were broadcast per year.
Since September 5, 1955, first in RAVAG , from January 1, 1958 on the ORF radio station Ö Regional at 7 p.m., the program Das Traummännlein comes . The theme song, lullaby (" Guten Abend, gut 'Nacht "), which was used until 1967, comes from Johannes Brahms , arranged by Norbert Pawlicki . The stories are from Urs Harnik-Lauris , Sigrid Helting , Werner Löw , Leo Parthé , Franz Stanzl , Evelyne Stein-Fischer and Jack Unterweger , Eleonore Zuzak, among others . The texts are spoken by actors such as Herbert Lenobel or Peter Gruber .
From May 19, 1956, the evening greeting "The Sandman is there" was broadcast on Radio DDR I.
Der Ohrbär , a production by Rundfunks Berlin-Brandenburg in cooperation with NDR Info and WDR 5 , is a literary radio program broadcast in Germany for children between four and eight years of age. It was first broadcast in 1987 and is broadcast every day before 8 p.m., but at different times on the three channels.
watch TV
The two Sandman shows in divided Germany between 1959 and 1990 are considered classics of the bedtime story on television. Our Sandman has been redesigned in MDR , RBB and KiKA since 1991 .
In Austria, ORF television broadcasted from around the mid-1960s (on FS1) until at least 1988 (the) bed treat , now renamed bedtime story.
The ten-minute Guetnachtgschichtli was broadcast on Swiss television from 1986 to 2006 . It has been broadcast again since the end of February 2012. The Romansh counterpart Istorgia da buna notg was discontinued in 2009 after almost 40 years.
