Dasylirion sereke is a species of the genus Dasylirion in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae). An English common name is "Sereke".

description

Dasylirion sereke forms a trunk up to 50 cm high. The variable, waxy, bluish leaves are 70 to 90 cm long and 10 to 15 mm wide. The yellow radial spines are directed irregularly upwards.

The panicley, woody, purple inflorescence becomes 2 to 4 meters high. The numerous flowers are yellow.

The round to elliptical, purple capsule fruits are 7.5 mm long and 5 to 7 mm wide and contain only one seed . The swollen stylus on the fruit is 1 mm long. The triangular seeds are 3.5 mm long and 2.5 mm wide.

The flowering period extends from May to June.

Distribution and systematics

The rare Dasylirion sereke is endemic to the south of the Mexican state of Chihuahua . This little-known species grows on stony slopes, on volcanic subsoil and in woodland at altitudes of 1800 to 1950 meters.

It was first described in 1998 by David John Bogler .

Dasylirion sereke belongs to the section Glaucophyllum in the genus Dasylirion . The swollen stylus is characteristic. Dasylirion sereke is closely related to Dasylirion wheeleri and Dasylirion durangense , but there are differences in the fruit structure.
