Zurab Datunaschwili ( Georgian ზურაბ დათუნაშვილი ; English Zurab Datunashvili ; * 18th June 1991 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian wrestler . In 2013 he became vice European champion in the Greco-Roman style welterweight .

Career

Zurab Datunashvili started wrestling at the age of 6. He belongs to a wrestling club in Tbilisi , is trained by Viliam Kharasov and specializes in the Greco-Roman style. Currently wrestling is also his job. The 1.83 meter tall athlete starts at a height of 1.83 meters in the welterweight class, the weight class up to 74 kg body weight.

He already competed in his first international championship in 2006 at the age of 15, when he came 12th in the weight class up to 42 kg at the Junior European Championship (age group Cadets) in Istanbul. In 2008 he started, still as a "Cadet", at the Junior European Championships in Daugavpils in the weight class up to 63 kg and reached 7th place. 2011 was his most successful junior year. This year he took 3rd place in the welterweight division in Zrenjanin behind Islam Charajew, Russia and Ismail Kocaslan, Turkey, and a little later he became the junior world champion at the Junior World Championships in Bucharest, behind Rafik Manukjan, Armenia.

His first big success with the seniors came in 2012, because he qualified in Sofia for the participation in the Olympic Games in London. He left such outstanding wrestlers as Mark Overgaard Madsen , Denmark and Péter Bácsi , Hungary, behind. At the Olympic Games itself he won over Kim Jin-hyeok, South Korea and Benjamin Errol Provisor, United States, but then lost to Emin Akhmadov from Azerbaijan. Since this did not reach the final, he was eliminated, but still took a good 7th place.

In December 2012, Zurab Datunashvili became Georgian welterweight champion for the first time and also represented his country at the European Championships in Tbilisi in March 2013. He was in very good shape there and defeated in welterweight Bálint Korpási , Hungary, Božo Starčević , Croatia and Pascal Eisele , Germany. In the final, he faced the Olympic champion Roman Vlasov from Russia, against whom he lost just 0: 2 rounds and 0: 2 points. He became vice European champion.

After an excellent 3rd place at the Golden Grand Prix in Szombathely in the new weight class up to 75 kg behind Mark Overgaard Madsen , Denmark and the 2011 lightweight world champion Saeid Mourad Abdvali , Iran, Zurab Datunashvili was again a month later European Championship of this year, which took place in Vantaa / Finland, used. He could not convince there, because he won in his first fight over Jan Rotter from Germany, but was already defeated in his next fight against Seref Tüfenk from Turkey, which meant he was eliminated and only came in 15th place. At the World Championships in Tashkent in September 2014, he won the weight class up to 75 kg over Arkadiusz Kulynycz, Poland, Valeri Palenski, Belarus, Jawor Janakiew , Bulgaria and Gurpeet Singh, India. In the semifinals he suffered a narrow point defeat against Arsen Dschulfalakjan from Armenia. He then lost in the fight for a bronze medal against Elwin Mursalijew from Azerbaijan on points.
