particularities Well-known via ferrata on the southeast side

The Daubenhorn is 2941.7  m above sea level. M. high mountain peak of the mostly nameless peaks of the Leeshörner and is located entirely in the Swiss canton of Valais .

The Daubenhorn is located in the Bernese Alps to the west of the Balmhorn Group and separated from it by the Gemmipass, and to the east of the Wildstrubel Group , the easternmost branch of which is the Daubenhorn. To the southeast it slopes down with steep rock faces directly to Leukerbad . Its northern flank of the summit carries the small Daubenhorn glacier, from which a less steep flank extends more gently to the Lämmerenboden to the northwest. The direct western neighbor with a connecting ridge that loses a little height is the Schwarzhorn (Leukerbad) ( 3105  m above sea level ).

Summit routes

The mountain is best known for the via ferrata due to its south-eastern slopes. It is the longest and one of the most demanding via ferrata in all of Switzerland (as of 2005). From the summit you can enjoy a good view of the Valais Alps to the south .

The normal route leads from the Gemmi pass , which can be reached by cable car from Leukerbad, on the Hüttenweg in the direction of the Lämmerenhütte ( SAC ) to the Lämmerenboden. From this one reaches the Daubenhorn Glacier via a flank in a south-easterly direction, via which one reaches the summit ridge and finally the summit. This route is often used as a ski tour in winter .

In 1998 a via ferrata was set up through the Daubenhorn Südost-Wand. With a height difference of 1000 meters, a total of 2100 meters of steel cable and 200 meters of ladders, the Daubenhorn via ferrata is the longest via ferrata in Switzerland. In terms of overall requirements (height, length, difficulty), it is one of the most demanding via ferratas in Switzerland.

The start of the path can be reached by a short descent from the Gemmi pass. After about halfway, at the Oberen Freiheit ( 2303  m above sea level ), you can break off the tour and descend via the Geissweg back to Leukerbad ("small variant"). The technical difficulty is D-E .
