Daublebsky von Sterneck

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Daublebsky von Sterneck is the name of an Austrian aristocratic family , originally from Bohemia , branched into several lines , whose members were mainly active in administration and the military.

history

The family comes from a patrician family from Budweis in southern Bohemia , who were mayors of the city for generations . A descent from the old aristocratic Bohemian Doudlebsky von Doudleb is possible, but not proven (references in: "Wappen des Böhmischen Adels", Neustadt an der Aisch 1979, p. 221).

The documented line of trunks begins in 1582 with Georg Daublebsky , who was the eldest municipality in Budweis that year. His son Caspar Daublebský (or Doudlebský ), born in 1560, was city councilor in Budweis (today České Budějovice ) since 1592 and mayor of the city from 1600 to 1605 and 1613–1621. As a thank you for not taking part in the Protestant uprising in Bohemia (1618) from 1618 to 1620 , Caspar Daublebský was elevated to the nobility by Emperor Ferdinand II in 1620 with the title of Sterneck .

His grandson Johann Georg II, also mayor of Budweis, received an improvement in the coat of arms in 1735 . His great-grandson Jakob Ignaz Eusebius (1748–1826) initially completed his studies as a doctor of law and then began a career as a civil servant. He was a real councilor of the Gubernium and chamber procurator in Moravia and Silesia from 1795 to 1817 and received numerous awards during his career: in 1786 he became an Austrian knight, in 1792 an imperial baron with the title of Ehrenstein and in 1807 an Austrian baron.

His sons Joseph (1775–1848) and Karl (1779–1857) founded the Carinthian and Bohemian lines of the family. Karl became councilor at the court of appeal in Brno and is considered to be the originator of the Moravian and Silesian judicial organization of the time. Joseph was provincial governor of Carinthia from 1834 , as well as president of the inner-Austrian and coastal appellate and higher criminal courts in Klagenfurt.

Joseph's son, Maximilian (1829-1897), embarked on a career as a naval officer and took part in the 1866 naval battle of Lissa , for which he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Military Maria Theresa Order . He ended his career as kuk admiral and commander of the Austro-Hungarian navy . After him, the 1998 decommissioning class of the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt chose the name “Sterneck”. His illegitimate son Maximilian Daublebsky von Eichhain (1865–1939) made it to the position of Austro-Hungarian Vice Admiral .

coat of arms

The emperor's coat of arms shows three six-pointed blue stars in silver; the shield, which is covered with an imperial baronial crown, is surrounded by a golden chain of grace on which a medallion with the image of Charles VI. hangs. Shield holder: two golden lions.

The Austrian baronial coat of arms is divided transversely; above in Roth the golden chain of grace with the medallion, which hangs down from the two upper corners of the field; the other half of the shield is divided vertically, on the right, in red, an oblique left silver bar covered with the three blue stars; on the left, in blue, a silver eagle half breaking out of the dividing line. The shield is covered by the barons crown, on which two crowned helmets rise. Each of the helmets wears an open flight, the right blue wing of which is covered by a slanting left silver bar covered with three red stars lengthways, while the left silver wing is traversed by a slanting red bar covered with three silver stars lengthways. The helmet covers are red on the right, blue on the left, and lined with silver on both sides. Shield holder: two golden lions.
