Dave Hubbard

David "David" Hubbard (* around 1940; † March 2016 ) was an American jazz musician (saxophone, flute).

Dave Hubbard, who was from Maryland , performed with the Baltimore Municipal Band at the age of 13; In 1960 he toured with singer Maxine Brown . In 1963 he founded his first band, which u. a. also included Gary Bartz , Carl Adams, Mickey Bass , Lonnie Liston Smith, and Joe Chambers . During this time he played in the Bohemian Caverns jazz club and in the house band of the Howard Theater in Washington, DC

Throughout his career, Hubbard played with Ray Charles , Ethel Ennis , Patti LaBelle , Ruth Brown , Kenny Dorham , Roy Haynes , Charles Earland , Dr. Lonnie Smith , Lonnie Liston Smith and George Benson . He also studied music at Morgan State University. After earning his bachelor's degree, he left the Ray Charles Big Band and moved to New York City, where he performed in jazz clubs such as the Village Vanguard , The Village Gate , Fat Tuesdays and Five Spot . From the early 1970s he recorded several albums under his own name, stylistically assigned to the fusion genre. He has also worked on the recordings of Les McCann , Charles Earland and George Benson. In the field of jazz he was involved in 45 recording sessions between 1969 and 2006, in addition to the aforementioned also with Melvin Sparks , Leon Spencer , Boogaloo Joe Jones , Defunkt , Irene Reid and Big John Patton .
