Jimmy Rowser
James Edward "Jimmy" Rowser (born April 18, 1926 in Philadelphia , † June 24, 2004 ) was an American jazz bassist .
He played from 1954 with Philly Joe Jones ; First recordings were made in 1955 when he was a member of the Ray Bryant Trio. In 1956/57 he worked with Dinah Washington and Joe Carroll , from 1957 to 1959 at Maynard Ferguson and Red Garland . In 1963 he toured Mexico with Benny Goodman and in 1964 accompanied Friedrich Gulda in South America ( Gulda Jazz ). In 1966 he played with Al Cohn and Zoot Sims and toured a lot with Les McCann since 1969 , with whom he also frequently recorded.
Rowser also recorded with Ray Bryant ( Cold Turkey 1964), Yusef Lateef , Junior Mance , Hank Mobley , Elmer Snowden , Illinois Jacquet , Herb Ellis , Lee Morgan , Eddie Harris , Buddy Montgomery , Dave Hubbard, and Ted Harris . In the field of jazz, he was involved in 56 recording sessions between 1955 and 1991, most recently at Hilton Ruiz ( A Merry Jazzmas ). on. Most recently he lived in Teaneck, New Jersey.
