David E. Doubt

David Eugene Zweifel (born September 13, 1934 in Denver , Colorado ) is a former American diplomat who was ambassador to the Yemeni Arab Republic between 1981 and 1984 .

Life

After attending school, Zweifel completed an undergraduate degree at Oregon State University , which he completed with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.). He then joined the US Navy and was last to Lieutenant Commander (Lieutenant) transported. During that time, he was an instructor in the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) at Princeton University between 1960 and 1962 .

In 1962 he joined the Foreign Service and was political advisor at the embassy in Brazil between 1962 and 1965 and then personnel officer at the US State Department from 1965 to 1967 . After completing an Arabic language course in Beirut between 1967 and 1969 , he served as consul at the embassy in Jordan from 1969 to 1970 . He was then from 1971 to 1974 political advisor at the embassy in Mexico and then from 1974 to 1976 permanent representative of the ambassador to Oman . After attending the National War College (NWC) at Fort Lesley J. McNair in Washington, DC from 1976 to 1977 , he was Deputy Head of Egypt at the State Department from 1977 to 1979. He was then from 1979 to 1981 Permanent Representative of the Ambassador to Jordan.

Doubt took over the post of Ambassador to the Yemeni Arab Republic from George M. Lane on October 24, 1981 . He held this post until June 20, 1984 and was then replaced on October 28, 1984 by William Arthur Rugh . Subsequently, he served from 1984 to 1987 as head of the functional area North Africa, the Foreign Ministry and then between 1987 and 1989 so that in each case as head of the functional area Caribbean and was the Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs ( Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs ) assigned. He was then Chief Inspector of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1989 to 1992 and Chief Human Resources Director from 1992 to 1993, before his last position as Consul General in Rio de Janeiro between 1993 and 1995 .
