David Erkalp (2018)

David Erkalp (born February 2, 1974 in Midyat / Turkey ) is a Hamburg politician ( CDU ) and member of the Hamburg Parliament .

Life and work

Erkalp's family belongs to the Christian minority of the Arameans , who traditionally live in southeastern Turkey and who were largely expelled from their homeland by the persecution of religious minorities in the Turkish Republic.

After graduating from high school and doing civilian service, Erkalp studied business administration from 1994–99 and until 2001 social economy (focus on EU labor market and economic policy) with a degree in business administration. He works as a branch manager in the family business.

David Erkalp is married and has three children.

Political career

In 1998, Erkalp joined the CDU. In 2004 he became a member of the local committee in Billstedt and was chairman from 2005 to 2008. In 2007 he became deputy district chairman of the CDU Hamburg-Mitte. From 2008 to 2012 Erkalp was a member of the state executive committee of the CDU Hamburg and from 2010 to 2012 district chairman of the CDU Hamburg-Mitte .

In the 2008 state elections , Erkalp received 6,831 votes in the constituency of Billstedt-Wilhelmsburg-Finkenwerder and became a citizen. In the 2011 election he lost his mandate because Heiko Hecht had received more votes, but came back to the citizenship on September 2, 2013 as his successor. In the 2015 election , Erkalp won another direct mandate with 12,410 constituency votes.

On February 23, 2020, Erkalp again succeeded in becoming a member of the Hamburg Parliament .
