Chapter 27 - The Assassination of John Lennon (Original title: Chapter 27 ) is an American - Canadian feature film from 2007 . Directed by JP Schaefer , who also wrote the script.

The film shows the immediate history of the murder of John Lennon . In addition, the life of the murderer Chapman in the last three days is described in detail; how he arrives from Hawaii on an airplane , first lives in a YMCA hostel and later moves into a hotel. He spends most of his time near the building where Lennon lives.

Reviews

Dennis Harvey wrote in Variety magazine on January 28, 2007 that the film was cumbersome, lethargic and annoying ( "the pic itself is heavy, lethargic, and exasperating" ). He does not explain the protagonist's motivation and is uninspired in all respects ( “uninspired in all departments” ). Its success in the cinemas is as likely as a reunion of the Beatles in the 21st century.

The film was shot in New York City . Its production cost was estimated to be five million Canadian dollars .

The world premiere took place on January 25, 2007 at the Sundance Film Festival , which was followed by several other film festivals, including the European Film Market as part of the Berlinale 2007. On March 28, 2008, it was shown in selected US cinemas. In some countries, such as Germany and Canada , the film was released directly on DVD.

For the role of Mark David Chapman , Jared Leto gained 28 kilograms. After the end of the shooting, he starved himself down again within a very short time , especially for his band 30 Seconds to Mars . These strains on his body resulted in gout .
