David Gottlob von Gersdorf

David Gottlob von Gersdorf (* 1658 in Breitungen near Magdeburg ; † July 21, 1732 in Spandau ) was a Prussian lieutenant general , chief of Infantry Regiment No. 18 and governor of the Spandau Citadel . He was a knight of the Black Eagle Order , governor of Zinna and heir to Schulzendorf and Schmöckwitz .

Life

His parents were Heinrich von Gersdorf - who only came to Thuringia later - and Catharina Elisabeth von Byla . Since his father was not a rich man, he went into the Brandenburg military service in 1681. In 1683 he was an ensign of the guard and in 1687 he became a lieutenant. In 1692 he became captain of the 4th battalion of the Kurmark Guard, in 1696 he became a major, in 1705 a lieutenant colonel in the grenadier guards and in 1707 a colonel. On September 20, 1709 he was made major general and on May 23, 1719 he was made lieutenant general.

On May 3, 1706, King Friedrich Wilhelm I granted him the right to the post of governor of Zinna. When the incumbent von Kratz died on January 11, 1711, he took over the position. In 1716 he received regiment No. 18 (Tettau), which he handed over to Georg Volrath von Kröcher in 1731 . In 1723 he became governor of Spandau . In 1728 he was also awarded the Order of the Black Eagle by the King.

He was involved in the campaigns on the Rhine and in Italy and was in 1715 as major general in charge of the siege of Stralsund . There he successfully defended a conquered horn factory against a Swedish failure.

family

Since October 1, 1696, he was married to Margarethe Elisabeth von Rhetz († October 6, 1748) the daughter of the lawyer Johann Friedrich von Rhetz (* 1633; † October 6, 1707) and Katharina Elisabeth von Dechen (Decher) . His son died on June 20, 1719 as a volunteer in the imperial army in the battle of Francavilla in Sicily. The daughter Katharina Louise (1700–1728) was married to the minister Adam Otto von Viereck .
