Georg Volrath von Kröcher (born April 23, 1678 , † October 28, 1748 in Geldern ) was a royal Prussian lieutenant general , governor of Stettin and Jasenitz and heir to Lohm and Metzelthin . He was also the governor of the Duchy of Geldern and the fortress of Geldern and head of the Royal War and Domain Commission in Geldern.

He was the son of Melchor Joachim von Kröcher on Dreetz and Lohm and his wife Maria Elisabeth von Seelstana from the Kujow family.

Life

In 1694 he joined the Prussian army and joined Infantry Regiment No. 6 . He took part in the fighting in the Netherlands and took part in the battles of Oudenaarde and Malplaquet as well as in the sieges of Venlo , Roermond , Rheinberg , Bouchain , Ryssel and Bonn .

On May 1, 1708 he became a captain, on January 8, 1712 major and on December 20, 1715 lieutenant colonel. That year he was fighting for Stralsund . On April 14, 1717 he was appointed adjutant general to the king.

On July 28, 1728 he became a colonel and on November 30, 1731, he was given Infantry Regiment No. 18 . On June 15, 1738, the king appointed him major general, governor of Geldern and head of the commission there, and he was also awarded the Order of De la Générosité . On May 22, 1742 he was promoted to major general. Because of his outstanding achievements, he had already received the administrative authorities of Stettin and Jasenitz from King Friedrich Wilhelm I. In 1740 he was awarded the Pour le Mérite order from King Friedrich II . Despite his military commands, he also took care of his inherited fiefdom in the Prignitz and built a stately baroque mansion in Lohm on his share in Lohm II in 1737, which still stands today. Kröcher died in Geldern on October 28, 1748.

A picture by Kröcher, which is said to come from Friedrich II personally, was in the City Palace in Potsdam until 1945.

On January 22, 1717, he married Sophia Charlotte von Winterfeld (* 1695) daughter of Joachim Detlof von Winterfeld from the Neuendorf family and his wife Hedwig Elisabeth von Alvensleben . The couple had the following children:
