David Heinrich Müller, 1866

David Heinrich Müller (born July 6, 1846 in Buczacz , Galicia , Austrian Empire ; died December 21, 1912 in Vienna , Austria-Hungary ) was an Austrian orientalist , Semitist , linguist and literary scholar of Jewish origin.

Life

Müller studied Oriental Philology at the University of Vienna , where he received his doctorate on March 17, 1875. phil. received his doctorate . He then taught there as a lecturer and from 1881 as a professor of Semitic languages . He worked as an author and editor of scientific works and was also involved in the Realencyclopedia of Classical Classical Studies (RE) supervised by Georg Wissowa . In 1898/1899 he led an expedition to Arabia . He was married to Charlotte Horowitz.

His services to Oriental Studies were honored with his appointment as Imperial Councilor . One day before his death on December 20, 1912, Müller was raised to the Austrian personal nobility . Half a year later, his widow Charlotte and his two sons, the lawyer Stefan Müller and the doctor Albert Müller, with a diploma dated July 29, 1913 with the name extension "Edler von Deham", were also raised to the Austrian nobility.
