David Karnes

David Kemp Karnes (born December 12, 1948 in Omaha , Douglas County , Nebraska ) is an American politician . In 1987 and 1988 he represented the state of Nebraska in the US Senate .

Career

David Karnes attended public schools in his home country. He then studied law at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, among other things. In 1981 he was a White House Fellow . He then held various political offices. In 1982 he was Under Secretary of Housing and Urban Development . He then became special advisor to the board of directors of the Federal Home Loan Bank in 1983 . Between 1983 and 1987 he was Chairman of the Board of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka . At the same time he was also active as a general advisor on trade issues. Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party .

After the death of US Senator Edward Zorinsky , David Karnes was surprisingly appointed by then Governor Kay A. Orr to succeed him as Class 1 Senator in Congress , where he took up his new mandate on March 11, 1987. There he became a member of the Banking Committee, the Agriculture Committee and the United States Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship . In the 1988 elections he was defeated by former Governor Bob Kerrey of the Democratic Party . Therefore, he left the Congress on March 3, 1989.

Karnes has practiced as a lawyer since the end of his tenure in the US Senate. In addition, he is or was on the board of directors and consultant of various companies and groups of companies. After the death of his first wife Elizabeth, he has been married to Kristine Dorn since 2008. He has six children in total, with the youngest daughter born in 2013.
